| The Acquisition
Module provides for the entry of basic bibliographic data and other data such
as order lists for current and subsequent year subscriptions. Records can be
transferred to the OPAC. The Cataloguing Module maintains the full
bibliographic description in UNIMARC format. Worksheets are provided for
different types of bibliographic description. For serials, provision is made
for title level descriptions and individual issue records. Classification and
subject indexing is aided by subject navigation through the subject heading
dictionary and/or thesaurus. Multi-volume publications can be processed in a
single operation. Data entry facilities include menus, directories,
dictionaries and embedded worksheets. There is full control of individual
bibliographic elements and automatic duplication checks can be made. Links can
be provided to graphics and full-text documents and the bibliographic
description can be output in various forms. The search facilities allow further
editing and copying to be undertaken. The Circulation Module enables loans to
be easily processed and controlled. Information is provided on the currently
available copies and borrowed items and borrowers can be monitored. Circulation
statistics such as overdues and loan information can be provided and bar-code
systems can be incorporated. A user-friendly interface to the search system is
provided in the User Module. Direct access to the indexes provides rapid
retrieval. Searches can be formulated using each of the bibliographic elements
in any combination. The Administrator Module enables the system administrator
to maintain the database. |
